Can’t Find Aldernon

I have searched all over the Squirrel Forrest and can’t find Aldernon. The hollow tree in Cape Thunderbird only had squirrel droppings so I know he is not there. What am I missing?

    He's not in that tree. He's in a circle of big pine trees in Cape Thunderbird. Hit the brown tree.

    I’ve also a problem with Aldernon. I have found him in the circle of trees, but can’t approach him. I’m playing the classic version. Do I need some special weapon or item to get rid of the trees? Or do I need to have some specific Quest active? I have quest “Convince Aldernon” active And “Help Mayor Michelle” active
