I got a serious issue here, unless I am missing out on something...

The Tsar is gone, and I cannot finish the 4 main quests.
I have the feeling that he disappeared when I updated to The Quest Gold v8.0 and installed HOL4 on my iPod.

As Baba Yaga still wants a decree from the Tsar, this feels very much like a bug to me.

I checked during various times of the day, so I am quite sure he did not just go off for a nap.

Update: All my current savegames with this character are from the same day in the game, so I could not check when exactly the Tsar disappeared.
However, I checked with the save I made right after entering the expansion, and there the Tsar still is around.

You have to write Elendil at redshift on this one.

Can you not use an older save? Always keep as many as you can.

Too much credit, I totally fail at painting/drawing A friend sent it to me about a year ago.

So I guess it is copyrighted to that company, as it is a figurine produced by them. Should I remove it to avoid potential trouble? I am not too familiar with internet copyright things, aside from that it can turn into quite a hassle.

I don't think you have to remove it unless requested to by the copyright owner. : )

Many people here and in general on the internet use "borrowed" avatars.

If you feel uncomfortable you could write them and ask permission to use it as your avatar.

I want to try removing and reinstalling Quest+Expansions to see if that fixes the bug with the Tsar.
So, question: When I delete the game on the iPod and the reinstall it from iTunes, will I lose my saves? If yes, is there any way to backup the saves separately (without jailbreaking the iPod)?

I just tested with the expansions, and the savegame I made there (standalone) is gone after deleting the expansion from the iPod and reinstalling it from iTunes.

I think you will lose your saves. Better to write This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it before you do something so drastic. I don't know anyway to backup your save.

Update, unfortunately no solution:
Elendil could not find any reason for the bug that the Tsar disappeared. So my guess is corrupt savefile, and I started HOL1 again, from the savefile I had from the beginning of the expansion.
The Tsar is still there so far (halfway through HOL1), but the game crashes frequently now (it never did before), 3 times so far today. As I normally never switch off my iPod I will do that and see if it helps.

Savefile backup:
According to Elendil there is no way to do that
And after testing it with the expansions (delete the expansion and the savefile is gone) I do not feel like trying it with the main game
To be really sure I will check with my girlfriend. She said something about backing up and restoring all her files from a non-jailbroken iPhone when she got a new one.

Problem with iphone is that it has limited memory. If a call comes in it wants the game to shut down--so you either disable autosave and miss your call or enable autosave and risk a glitched save file.

I don't know which one is worse.

The same glitch happened to me and since I'm a excessive saver, all my 20 saves were from the time after the Tzar was gone.

So I was close to restarting from the beginning or quitting the game at all since a glance of genius hit me (ok, maybe overestimating).

I recalled a place in magic school and went all the way through the tunnel (via the teleporter in that house on the island) and when I came back to the Royal quarters I could speak with Tzar and finish my quests.

So if anyone experiences the same bug, maybe try that way.

glad that worked for you and you did not have to start over like me

I tried what Reiko did, also recalling to various places inside the city and even to the other dimension (the one you reach from the city battlements) and then walking back from there to the Tzar's quarters.
Unfortunately none of these fixed it for me, so starting over it was.

However, there have been some updates to TheQuest since I had this bug, so hopefully it is fixed now or Reiko's approach works

Just thought I let you know it might not be a sure-fire approach.

Yes, I have that bug too. I cannot go in headline quarters, I see "no answwer"

So I use recall and go to tonnel again, like reiko.
